Methods Mondays: Ethnography and Feminist Ethics of Care

Monday, March 11, 2024

12:00 PM - 01:00 PM

(America - New York)

In this discussion, Dr. Leslie Dwyer will speak on ethnographic approaches to knowledge that are rooted in feminist principles of care and interdependence, and how we can work to dismantle extractive methodologies that center value primarily in the corporeal and scholarly body of the researcher. In this interactive session, Dr. Dwyer will draw upon her own experience as an ethnographer, and will engage participants in dialogue about how we might envision liberatory methodologies grounded in care ethics.

Dr. Leslie Dwyer is an Associate Professor at the Carter School. She holds a PhD in anthropology and has conducted ethnographic work on survivors of mass violence and transitional justice; modernist Islamic movements for social justice; gender-based violence; and conflicts over natural resource extraction in Indonesia.
